Mammut Alugator Light 26/27

The Alugator Light is a lightweight aluminium shovel for tourers who want to save pack weight. This page places it in a splitboard touring context: what it is for, where its limits sit and which equipment still belongs in the setup.

What is the Alugator Light designed for?

The shovel is carried together with transceiver and probe. Compact packing helps, but rescue performance also depends on blade size, shaft length and stiffness. Regular conveyor-belt or V-shaped excavation practice reveals fit to the user better than specifications alone.

Low weight is attractive on long climbs. Before buying, check whether shaft length and blade size suit your height and shovelling technique.

What is our editorial assessment?

We have not yet tested the Alugator Light on tour. This assessment is based on the published manufacturer information and our experience with comparable splitboard equipment. Once we complete a field test, measured data and practical impressions will be separated clearly from product specifications.

What is included and what else do you need?

The shovel blade and shaft are included. A transceiver and probe are separate, while a rescue course and regular excavation drills complete the preparation.
