Ascent & Route

You continue to climb up the Niederjoch valley inwards, on about half the way to the Similaun hut you turn west towards the summit ascent to Hauslabkogel.

After the descent we continue up the Niederjoch valley, at the end of which the Similaun hut is soon to be seen.

Descent & Variants

Along the ascent track and after the first striking rocky ridge you keep to the right in order to ascend again as few height meters as possible towards Similaunhütte. Alternatively, if the snow conditions are good, you can also go down the eastern chute before the last rock of the summit ridge. (good to see in ascent).

Map Explanation

  • Slope inclinations are a very important criterion in avalanche risk management. However, slope inclination alone should never be the sole criterion!
  • The resolution for Austria and South Tyrol is based on a digital terrain model (DTM) with 10m resolution. Outside these areas, accuracy is significantly lower.
  • A map can only ever provide a limited view of real conditions.
