Route Character

A great splitboard / ski tour near the Axamer Lizum, short ascent and in safe conditions, many downhill runs. High snow cover and safe conditions required.

Ascent & Route

We start our splitboards ready to hike. Pass the Axamer Lizum funicular railway in the direction of Birgitzköpfl-Lift. Now we walk on the piste to the Birgitzköpfel hut (we can also shorten the way with an one-way ticket and make a comfortable morning tour out of it).
Now the actual splitboard / ski tour begins in the open terrain. We cross underneath the avalanche barriers (in windy or icy conditions we put on the crampons in time) and head south towards Halsl. Shortly after the avalanche fences we reach the summer path, which we follow in south-east direction and then directly to the east. At approx. 2260m we follow the summer path further north-eastwards and soon reach the summit of Nockspitze 2404m.

Descent & Variants

There are many variations on the descent from the Nockspitze.

Of course, the descent along the ascent way is not the most interesting.

Variant A: In safe conditions and high snow cover over the “Leintuch” to Telfes.
Our Splitboards in Ride-Mode we depart in south-east direction to the Sailennieder 1974m. In the upper third we keep to the right in the wide and beautiful Splitboard slope, as there were already some avalanche events on the left side (viewed from above). Having mastered this key point, we continue on the wide slopes between the Nederjoch and the Ghf. Pfarachalm in the direction of Gasthof. When we have reached the inn, we can either go through the dense forest or follow the toboggan run to Telfes. From here we can take the Stubaitalbahn back to Innsbruck and then back to the Axamer Lizum. For this tour it makes sense to use public transport.

Variant B: The Meierrinne, only for very safe conditions and good Splitboard riders. We ride approx. 100m in south-west direction, then west, until we reach the entry into a wide, very steep channel, here straight down and then approx. 20m back up to the Birgitzköpfel hut and some delicious food and/or drinks. Or, if the snow conditions are right, you can continue to Birgitz.

I don’t want to mention any further options at this point, but you can imagine if you are there.
