Route Character

Steep, short, cool. This splitboard / backcountry route unfortunately is often endangered by avalanches.

Starting Point & Village

Starting point: Bus turning area in Obern / Madern Village: Schmirn

Ascent & Route

Straight to the south, up the mountain. At the beginning through the forest until we reach at about 2000m the free splitboard / backcountry terrain. We continue, putting one halfe of the splitboard before the other until we change to making kickturns, because of the steepnes. Then we reach the daunting summit slope.
Relaxed, because the conditions exceptionally fit, we proceed to the summit.

We had quite a long way because we lost a few critical parts ( 3 of 4 screws on the slider plate) due to lack of thread locking compound. As the needle in the haystack, we found two screws and were able to enjoy a great descent.

Descent & Variants

You can ride the whole area, if the conditions are right. At the Seealm you can keep left and descent through a beautiful forest clearing.

Map Explanation

  • Slope inclinations are a very important criterion in avalanche risk management. However, slope inclination alone should never be the sole criterion!
  • The resolution for Austria and South Tyrol is based on a digital terrain model (DTM) with 10m resolution. Outside these areas, accuracy is significantly lower.
  • A map can only ever provide a limited view of real conditions.
