The splitboard market has continued to develop dynamically in recent years. On the one hand there are the established international big players, who dominate the trade with large quantities, on the other hand more and more young brands emerge, who mix up the old structures with fresh ideas and a lot of personal commitment.

Nowadays there are splitboards in all variations, from dedicated freestyle splitboards to special powder splitboards. Also the trend is to have at least one special funboard in your personal quiver for those special days.
In our opinion the most important thing is the overall performance, that means a splitboard should work safely in all conditions from slush to ice and in every terrain. That”s what makes a really good splitboard.
The pleasure and the joy of the overall experience.

Of course, the kind of personal use is also decisive. Will I just go on a small tour from time to time or am I often on very long, challenging routes? Then, for example, weight plays a more important role. Should the splitboard be my board for everything, even on piste days?

Since we are asked more and more often what we think about special boards, we have decided to include one very special board in the Splitboarding Selection from now on, even if it does not go in the direction of “jack of all trades device”. It is a board that needs special conditions to be fully effective, deep powder or slush for example.

In order to be able to test under such special conditions on the one hand, and to be able to assess the all-round suitability on the other hand, we spared no effort to ride and hike the boards over the entire last season on several touring and piste days. The weight of the riders was between 73 and 80 kg. The bindings used in the test were Spark and Plum, the boots from Deeluxe.

First the four winners: Jones Mind Expander (as Special-Board), Konvoi Kantar, Never Summer Atom and Plum Transition

Congratulations to the boardmakers and brands - and lots of fun for the readers to test the boards themselves, e.g. at the SPLIT & RELAX #7 from 7th till 9th of February 2020!!!
