PIEPS Shovel C660 26/27

The Shovel C660 is a robust aluminium shovel for efficient excavation in an avalanche rescue. This page places it in a splitboard touring context: what it is for, where its limits sit and which equipment still belongs in the setup.

What is the Shovel C660 designed for?

The shovel is carried together with transceiver and probe. Compact packing helps, but rescue performance also depends on blade size, shaft length and stiffness. Regular conveyor-belt or V-shaped excavation practice reveals fit to the user better than specifications alone.

A stiff blade, secure connection and glove-friendly power transfer matter. The extra weight over minimalist models can be worthwhile in hard debris.

What is our editorial assessment?

We have not yet tested the Shovel C660 on tour. This assessment is based on the published manufacturer information and our experience with comparable splitboard equipment. Once we complete a field test, measured data and practical impressions will be separated clearly from product specifications.

What is included and what else do you need?

The shovel blade and shaft are included. A transceiver and probe are separate, while a rescue course and regular excavation drills complete the preparation.
