Fitwell Freeride 26/27
An alpine splitboard softboot with a firm cuff, durable shell and genuine semi-automatic crampon compatibility.
Who is this splitboard boot for?
Freeride is designed for bigger tours with real mountaineering sections. It suits riders who often use crampons, need substantial cuff support and accept extra weight and less walking freedom for those reserves.
How do fit and flex feel?
Freeride feels considerably firmer than a conventional all-mountain boot. Cordura, leather and PU form a supportive shell; laces and hook-and-loop straps hold instep and cuff. This helps heavier riders and firm traverses, but demands careful sizing and enough forefoot room.
What does the boot offer on the climb?
The Davos Galaxy sole combines deep tread with a heel welt for semi-automatic crampons. Its stiff build helps front-pointing and traverses, but weighs more and walks less freely than a boot with a pronounced walk mode.
Which binding matches this boot?
The stiff Fitwell does not require an extremely rigid binding to create control. A medium highback can reduce pressure peaks. An equally stiff binding maximises edge control but makes the full setup much less forgiving.
Read the underlying principles in our gear guide Finding the perfect boot-binding combination.
What changed from the previous season?
The 26/27 version continues the established Freeride concept. No fundamental construction changes are listed compared with the 25/26 page.
Have we tested the boot?
