You tour when the forecast is less than perfect, but want the deep descents to feel especially good? The Sakon combines camber between the bindings with a long, generously rockered nose. Within Mendiboard’s range, it is the obvious powder-oriented alternative to the more traditional Backcountry concept.

Is the Mendiboard Sakon 26/27 right for you?

26/27 season guide: the version currently offered by the manufacturer.

Which type of splitboarder does it suit?

Freeride splitters with a powder focus. You are happy to earn the climb when deep turns wait below. The Sakon and its long rockered nose are then a relevant alternative to the Climb. If most tours instead involve long hard traverses and a short exit, give the powder emphasis less weight in your choice.

What does the shape offer on the descent?

Look at the nose and tail separately. At the front, a flat section leads into generous rocker; at the back, camber transitions more directly to rocker. Alongside 30 mm of setback and 10 mm of taper, that describes a distinctly directional shape. The manufacturer rates flex at 7/10, suggesting a supportive rather than very soft brief. That number cannot tell you how a particular length feels at your weight. A demo is especially useful if your idea of a powder board is something extremely soft and easy to press.

What should you consider on the skin track?

Fit still matters on long traverses. A wider board takes more deliberate edging with smaller boots. Mendiboard also describes skinning without exchanging the halves, but limits that option to experienced users tracking them cleanly in parallel. In a narrow skier’s track, the brand recommends exchanging them as usual. Check the actual skin attachment on your board rather than relying on a product photograph alone.

How do you choose the right size and setup?

The sidecut changes with length: 8.2 m for the 154, 8.4 m for the 158 and 8.6 m for the 162. The 8.4 m mentioned in the general description therefore belongs to the middle size. Start with the rider-weight range and width for your chosen length; a long nose is not by itself a reason to size up.

Mendiboard offers individual boards and additional packages. The price here belongs to the individual board. Include suitable skins, bindings and the required interface when comparing a complete touring setup. A package price only becomes meaningful alongside its exact contents.

Dedicated openings or fittings for skin attachment are a practical Mendiboard detail. Before ordering, confirm the correct skin length and fitting for your exact model. A general statement about binding compatibility also does not replace checking the required interface and the components actually included.

How should boots, bindings and board work together?

We would build the Sakon into a setup with useful lateral support. Manufacturer flex 7/10 and an extremely soft boot are not an automatically balanced combination. Supportive boots and highbacks let you edge deliberately without making every part maximally stiff for a powder day.

Do not let the powder brief lead you into unnecessary width: small boots on an overly broad waist can mean extra work on the skin track.

Which test experience helps you choose?

We have not yet tested the Mendiboard Sakon ourselves. The advice on this page is based on manufacturer information and the principles in our Gear Guide. We therefore cannot yet describe the feel of this exact board from personal riding experience.

On a demo, we would focus on the points discussed above for your riding style: can your boots put enough pressure on the edge, does the board remain comfortable to move after a longer climb, and does the size work when the snow becomes heavier lower down? Use your usual boots where possible and compare a suitable length.

What has changed since 25/26 and earlier models?

Mendiboard currently offers this model without publishing a complete season-by-season change log. We include the present offer in the 26/27 season guide. “New” in a product description alone does not date every detail to this season. Compare the exact generation, dimensions and actual package contents.

Which other current boards fit your riding style?

Compare Mendiboard Backcountry Climb 2.0 and Prior Khyber Split. The shape and usage differences are discussed above. For a demo, similar sizing, your own boots and a familiar stance help more than comparing random available lengths.

FAQ: What should you know before your first tour?

Sakon or Backcountry Climb 2.0 for more powder?

The Sakon’s camber-rocker profile and long nose give it a clear powder emphasis. The Climb 2.0 provides the more traditional touring comparison. We have not directly tested both current versions; the older Backcountry experience is not a Sakon test.

Which Mendiboard Sakon size should I choose?

Currently listed sizes are 154, 158, 162.

What hands-on test experience is available?

We have not yet tested the Mendiboard Sakon ourselves. Our assessment is based on manufacturer information and our Gear Guide. We do not assign our own riding scores to it.

Which current alternatives should I compare?

Mendiboard Backcountry Climb 2.0 and Prior Khyber Split are the relevant comparisons discussed on this page. Choose shape, boot fit and your usual tours first. A different construction level becomes useful after those basics fit.

Which boots and bindings suit this board?

We would build the Sakon into a setup with useful lateral support. Manufacturer flex 7/10 and an extremely soft boot are not an automatically balanced combination. Supportive boots and highbacks let you edge deliberately without making every part maximally stiff for a powder day.

Is this a new construction for 26/27?

The current manufacturer page does not date every change by season. The Climb 2.0 specifies changes from the older Climb; comparisons should always use the exact version and dimensions.
