The Doppleganger is the touring-focused choice in Nitro’s split range. A KOROYD PowerLite core, carbon laminates and Hike Pods define its construction brief, while Cam-Out Camber keeps the descent part of the equation when conditions vary.

Is the Nitro Doppleganger Splitboard 26/27 right for you?

The Doppelganger has several winters of history in our test archive. What mattered was not an isolated construction label, but the combination of useful uphill grip, flotation and a descent that could be both precise and enjoyable. That remains a useful way to assess it for riders who see touring as more than a short approach to the next powder field.

The current KOROYD PowerLite and carbon construction indicate where the material investment goes, while Cam-Out Camber describes the profile approach. In buying terms, you are considering Nitro’s more touring-focused construction rather than simply its lowest-cost entry point. Hike Pods add shaping to the edge; they are not a guarantee on every icy traverse. Our older report described assistance rather than a replacement for technique.

How does it fit your approach, size and setup?

The Alternator FX provides a comparison with a stronger active all-mountain descent brief; the Nomad is the less expensive route into the range. The Doppelganger’s current sizes extend further down than the old 18/19 archive entry, making fit worth checking for lighter riders. Nitro currently lists the name as Doppleganger, whereas our historic tests use Doppelgänger or Doppelganger.

What have we learned from earlier seasons?

Our first-impression update dated 2 May 2015 contains a specific Doppelganger test using Deeluxe XV boots and Spark Surge bindings. Conditions included around 30 cm of fresh powder, wind-packed snow, tracked snow and an icy piste. We described useful extra grip from Hike Pods, good behaviour in established skin tracks and a stable yet enjoyable descent with precise carving. Pure backcountry freestyle was not its principal role in our assessment. Those are real observations about the old board; subsequent core and laminate changes prevent treating them as a complete test of today’s Doppleganger.

What has changed since 25/26 and earlier models?

Nitro lists this version under both 2025/2026 and 2026/2027. An earlier-season offer may therefore be worth comparing if size, actual version and condition match. A different season label alone does not establish a different ride.

FAQ: What should you know before your first tour?

What do Hike Pods actually contribute?

Our 15/16 first-impression test described additional edge grip on the approach. That is an observation about the older board. The current version uses the same general principle, but its effect cannot be quantified from that old test.

Which Nitro Doppleganger Splitboard size should I choose?

Current listed lengths are 148, 152, 156mw, 160mw, 164mw cm. Start with the rider-weight range for each length, then check boot width and stance. Frequent kick turns favour manageable equipment; extra length purely for assumed flotation is not a universal solution. Reference points from the table: 148 cm: 50-70 kg, waist 238; 156mw cm: 50+ kg, waist 250. These are manufacturer recommendations, not weight limits established in our tests.

Which other boards should I compare?

Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard: Active all-mountain riding and natural take-offs while touring. Nitro Nomad Splitboard: An affordable complete setup for first and mixed-condition tours. Choose around your usual tours and an appropriate size rather than favouring a model purely because of its position in the price list.

What original test experience do we have?

There is historical evidence: First Impression Splitboard Test 2015-16. It concerns 15/16 and is discussed above. Even with the same model name, the tested generation and original conditions remain important.

What do I need in addition to the board?

Nitro lists its Kohla skin-attachment system. Match skins to the actual model length and add compatible splitboard bindings and boots. A pictured binding or linked skin does not establish that it is included in the board price. Confirm the exact match, especially with older skin offers.

Is an earlier-season version worth considering?

Yes, when model, size and condition suit you. Nitro explicitly lists this version for both current seasons. For a used board, inspect the base, edges, inserts and connectors. An earlier test score cannot replace a condition check.

Which sizes and specifications are available?

Sizes: 148, 152, 156mw, 160mw, 164mw cm. Profile: Cam-Out Camber. Manufacturer flex: 8/10.

The table contains manufacturer figures for the specified lengths.
