Mendiboard New Backcountry Climb Pro Splitboard - Details

Like its sibling, the Classic Backcountry Splitboard, the Backcountry Climb Pro brings several upgrades. The new Backcountry is 10% lighter thanks to paulownia in the core. Together with poplar and bamboo it keeps the same flex and torsional behaviour, just lighter.

Two holes were added in the tip to attach skins without classic buckles. That lets you assemble the board for the descent without removing skins?avoiding a slip that sends the board down the mountain. Once assembled, you remove the skins and drop in.

The new shape (like the Nimbus Splitboard) uses a V?shaped tip and tail. In uphill mode the split halves feel more ski?like, with clips set a bit farther from tip and tail. This avoids sharp?angle edges and moves clips away from the inside edge.

Combined with the clips moved toward the centre, you can climb without inverting the halves. That prevents angled edges and clips from colliding in the jib. The gain: jibbing with straight inside edges is safer and more efficient, because the sidecut depth on the valley skate is reduced to zero and grips better on hard snow.

But why did we move the straight edge to the valley skate?

The valley skate is the hardest to grip because it?s farther from your balance point, so we move the curved edge to the mountain skate (closer to balance) and the straight edge to the valley skate to compensate for that distance.

This improved grip also makes the ?back maria? safer and more efficient because support on the valley skate is total. Important: ride without inverting only once you have experience and can keep both skates parallel instinctively. It?s not advisable on a skier?s line, as it?s narrower and the halves can collide more easily.

Traditional and directional camber profiles are designed for maximum ascent performance and reliable behaviour on descents across a wide range of snow types. Our splitboards have a large contact surface with the snow, giving you more grip on the climb.

It?s a versatile board: reactive on firm days and floaty on deep days thanks to rocker, shape and nose height. The high?performance sintered black base adds speed, and the setback helps you stay on top in deep snow.

This season we reduced the tail height/curvature, giving more edge length in turns?earlier entry, later exit, more control and agility.

Flex 8 delivers optimal stiffness for Big Mountain riders.

This splitboard received the Editor?s Choice award from splitboarding.eu and achieved the best WP?Score (price/weight ratio) among the selected splitboards.

FAQ

Can I ride it on-piste? Yes. It is a bit heavier than a solid board, but it rides well on-piste.

Do I need special boots for splitboarding? No. Regular snowboard boots work, but splitboard/touring boots offer better uphill support, walk mode and edging on traverses.
