Test Results

After we were extremely enthusiastic about the Weston Backwoods Splitboard, we naturally wanted to test the almost 1000 g lighter carbon version of the split. We had the board in a length of 163 cm under our feet.

The regular Weston gets the rating very good, the carbon version is too stiff for us. But it can be a top splitboard for heavy guys for sure.

Ascent: As expected, you can feel the significantly lower weight under your feet, it goes uphill almost like flying. The board floats in  powder, it is stable on the edge, everything you expect from a board of this class. Even in steep terrain up to 40° hard snow it holds well and the kickturns go easily off the foot. It's definitely a board where you will  enjoy long tours with.

Descent: For us as "slim" testers with max. weight of 75kg / 165 lbs it is unfortunately too hard tuned. But we can well imagine that it works much better for heavier people.

Description

The Weston Backwoods Carbon is one of the lightweights among the splitboards. We measured 2850 grams for the 163 cm long version. The board has a classic freeride shape with camber under feet and early rise rocker in the nose and tail area, plus almost 2 cm taper. Interesting in this construction are the different sidecut radii in the tail, mid and front area, similar to the Jones Solution. This, in combination with the profile, provides a safe riding experience in variable and rough terrain. Turns can also be initiated less abruptly.
