Test Results

The Mendi Backcountry is the board that really convinces us in terms of price and performance. Thought out to the smallest detail and optimized for splitboard tours in any terrain.

Ascent: We had the chance to take the Mendi under our feet several times and could test it from finest powder to really bad conditions. The long traditional camber gives the Mendiboard a good hold on the edge. In steep terrain and in hard conditions you can climb safely compared to other boards. If it gets deep and powdery, the Backcountry from Mendiboard has a short but higher nose than other boards on the market. This gives extra float and helps you to use less energy while tracking through snow so you can go further. It is well balanced and the kickturns come out of the leg easily. Thanks to the enormous effective edge length it has a very nice forward pull, which makes walking even easier.

Descent: Under changing conditions we noticed the following in addition to the excellent handling characteristics in powder and hardpack: If the snow has a hard crust, the Mendiboard Backcountry pops out very well compared to other classically shaped boards with its higher nose and wider contact surface, so you get stuck less and nothing stands in the way of a smooth descent even in the most difficult conditions. All in all the Mendiboard Backcountry offers a top package of price and performance. We can recommend it to a lot of splitboarders who like classic shapes.

Description

With the Backcountry split from Mendiboard you can feel the passion of the developer. It easily keeps up with the big brands in terms of quality. Concerning shape and performance you can see that Mendiboard is 100% involved with splitboards. All board parameters are perfectly tuned by Mendi. As with the previous models, it has a traditional camber profile for optimal edge hold in ascents and ideal riding characteristics in a variety of snow conditions. The shape of the nose is extra wide to ensure sufficient lift in powder despite the camber profile. In addition, the curve of the nose provides an extra portion of float.  It has 7 insert rows to adjust more setback if necessary, but in our opinion this is not necessary. In a length of 162cm the board is also available in a wide version.
