Splitboard Test Results

Ascent: Even with the rocker profile the edge hold is very good and traversing steeper sections is no proplem thanks to the Magne Traction. The wider nose requires skinning with legs apart but you grow accustomed to it.

Descent: We had quite some fun with it on groomers but sure it is not the adequate choice for that kind of terrain. In powder it feels like a plume. With tremendous amounts of float you will have a good time in powder for sure and face shots will get to your daily routine. The short lenght really helps in narrow chutes and when riding through the woods. If it gets steeper and in hard snow the edge hold is surprisingly good but can not be compared with the Solution.

Product description

For some time short powderfish boards are in vogue and Jones Snowboards offers a split version of its Storm Chaser solid this season. The board itself is heavily board surf inspired and was designed by Chris Christenson who is one of the most diverse surf shapers in the world and makes everything from contest boards to longboards and record breaking big wave guns. A blunt nose helps the floatation in deep pow so you can go pretty fast despite its short size. A rocker profile and swallowtail makes it the ideal choice for surfing frozen waves and plowing through deep pow. Thanks to the wavy fries edges (also called Magne Traction in snowboard lingo) on the outside and inside you always have enough edge hold during ascent and descent. The Surf Rocker profile pops the nose even further out and tight tree runs can be taken pretty quick. The Storm Chaser Split features a new Boltless Bridge which eliminates base hardware and Karakoram Ultra Clips for improved connection between board halves.
