Test Results

We already tested the boot (not a complete season but some hiking and riding), and yes Northwave made a big step forward and got it very comfy and pretty warm. The power transmission is enormous that you have to get used to it before entering challenging terrain.  The crampons suit well and fit excellently. Due to the carbon layer in the sole you can be confident that even in toughest situations the crampones will hold on. THe Lacing systhem is  different than at other boots but when used to it you feel well with it. I liked the little weels to make lacing more easy and the systhem more durable. IMPORTANT - I used 42 instead of 43 (which is my normal size) to have a good fit. Go and try it first!

Description

The Northwave Domain CR got reworked for this season. It is still a pure backcountry boot with all necessary features but it got lots more stiffness compared to the last years model. The Northwave Domain CR has attachment possibilities for full automatic crampons. This makes the sole a bit longer, approx. 5 mm more than other splitboard specific boots. The boot by itself is very comfortable and warm. Regarding stiffness it is comparable to Fitwell Freeride or K2 Aspect. Regarding flex you can put it on a level with the with the mentioned boots as well. The sole is with a full carbon layer to keep automatic crampones save even in rough terrain. The Vibram outersole is a solid climbing boot sole and promises good grip. Suited for riders with smaller heels. The lacing system with two laces for upper and lower part works flawless and heel hold feels good. Due to its bulky size, the boot is less suitable for people with big feet, as you can get over the edge of the board much faster in ride mode. From shoe size 43 (EU) onwards, measure more precisely whether the shoe still fits to the board.
