How to get there:

A13 to Matrei, then up to St. Jodok and into the Schmirntal, then continue to the end of the valley (Buswendeplatz). From the Brenner Pass, we take the main road to Stafflach and then left to St.Jodok and on to Schmirntal

Route description
Starting point:

Bus turning area in Obern / Madern


Straight to the south, up the mountain. At the beginning through the forest until we reach at about 2000m the free splitboard / backcountry terrain. We continue, putting one halfe of the splitboard before the other until we change to making kickturns, because of the steepnes. Then we reach the daunting summit slope.
Relaxed, because the conditions exceptionally fit, we proceed to the summit.

We had quite a long way because we lost a few critical parts ( 3 of 4 screws on the slider plate) due to lack of thread locking compound. As the needle in the haystack, we found two screws and were able to enjoy a great descent.


You can ride the whole area, if the conditions are right. At the Seealm you can keep left and descent through a beautiful forest clearing.

    Wir sind auf einen Nachbargipfel am Vormittag aufgestiegen und hatten am frühen Nachmittag im Nord-Nordost-Hang traumhafte Abfahrtsbedingungen.

    Risk potential: Gering im Bereich der nordseitigen Standardroute. Zahlreiche Gleitschneelawinen auf den Süd- und Westhängen des Schmirntals.

    Kalt wars, dafür der Schnee ein Traum. Obwohl der Jochgrubenkopf sehr häufig begangen wird, gab es durchgängig noch unverspurten Powder, sogar im Nahbereich der Aufstiegsspur.
    Ab der Baumgrenze lohnt es sich nach links in den relativ lichten Wald auszuweichen, auch hier fanden wir dank der schattigen Lage noch feinen Powder ohne Harschdeckel.
