This year, two new bindings will be presented. Since we could not meet the guys from Wintersafari Bindings we have asked them a few questions which might be of interest to you by mail, here the answers.
This month there will be a Kickstarter campaign, so if you want the Wintersafari Splitboard Bindings to be produced in series, support the guys.  We wish Wintersafari Bindings a successfull campaign and the necessary bit of luck.

But now to the questions - if you want to know more please post your questions under the article.

1.   Why are your bindings so special?
Our bindings are special for several reasons: first of all we designed them to avoid snow and ice built up on most important parts, so that the mode to mode transition is really fast and effortless. Secondly, they are absolutely self-sufficient and don’t need any extra interfaces. In addition, you don’t need any equipment to mount them on the board and to adjust angles (only a screwdriver.) All parts of the base and interface are made of metal so you won’t have any issues with plastic and metal behaving differently in subzero temperatures.  The Straps and Highbacks are produced by the well known Switchback Binding Company.

2.   Who is behind the Wintersafari Bindings?
Our team consists of two splitboard riders, one rider-engineer and one engineer. We have been venturing in the backcountry for the past 15 years and about 2 years ago we decided that we need to create our own bindings.

3.    Where is it possible to buy your bindings?
The first opportunity to buy our bindings will be our kickstarter campaign which is going to be launched soon. As for the distribution, we are going to start with our own web-site. We are also planning to contact major online and offline retailers to offer them our bindings.

4.   For whom are your Bindings designed?
We were designing our bindings with backcountry enthusiasts in mind. Our bindings are for those who want to ride that back bowl and to make their way to the chairlift. They are also for those who are setting off on a day hike in the backcountry. They are definitely for those who are planning a backcountry camp with tents in the wild environment. They are also for those who would like to climb a 5000m mountain like Elbrus or Kazbek and then ride down to the base camp, as we did during our tests. All in all they are for all kinds of backcountry activities. That doesn’t mean, though, that you cannot use them on a groomed track or in a park.

5.   For which sizes will the bindigs be available?
At present we have only one size that is something S-M (EU 39-43). In the nearest future we’ll create the L version.

6.    What is the weight of your bndings?
Our base plate weighs 350g. The weight of the ride mode interface is 156g. The touring mode interface is 150g. These calculations are for one binding setup.

7.    Why should I buy a WIntersafari Binding and not one of the well established brands?
While designing our bindings we tried to illuminate all the drawbacks of the existing bindings such as snow accumulation on small parts of the interface, necessity to use extra tools for mounting the bindings and adjusting the angle. We think that existing bindings are good but tried to take our bindings one step forward in terms of comfort, rigidity and swiftness. One feature that also makes our bindings stand out is easily removable high-back that is very convenient for the touring mode.

8.    What will the estimated price be?
The estimate price for the entire set up with all necessary interfaces will be 700$.
