Invited by Völkl Snowboards and Freeridershop.de we sacrificed a snow weekend to bring splitboarding a little bit closer to our friends in Hamburg.

In front of our hotel we discovered a bar which seemed to provide good vibrations for this weekend. Then we went on to the location to get prepared for the workshop.

Hamburg und München Connection

We arrived around 12.30. After an hour, it started to snow again in Hamburg. With joy we waited until 15.00 o`clock to start the workshop. Meanwhile, we were thinking that a splitboard cross-country tour on the  frozen Alster would be fun, or a splitboard tour in the Harz area (so you will not be annoyed by the crowds in the northern ski areas) would be a nice nature experience.

After a short presentation of the engaged and the presentation of some videos we entered immediately into splitboarding. First, we explained the functionality of Spitboards, as always we discusses the issues (compared to snowshoes, touring skis, downhill performance, ...). The realy interested had the opportunity to mount and check out the Cashew Split provided by Völkl Snowboards. It was noted that it is easy to use and intuitive as well. To mount the skins using the Skin Pin system works very well. Subsequently, questions were raised about alternative binding systems such as Spark R & D or Karakoram. So we discussed about that.  Also we had been asked about the handling in snowy and icy conditions. Go and try splitboarding so you can built up your own opinion!

In a small group, we then briefly discussed the risk minimization while snowboarding or skiing in the backcountry,  and the shapes of diferent splitboard models available in the market.

Splitboard Workshop bei freeridershop.de in Hamburg

After work, we did a little tour from the Zwick, a legendary rock pub in Hamburg on to the "Little Breake", up to the so called Hamburger Berg  (Hamburg Mountain).

It was a great pleasure to get to know the guys from Freeridershop.de in Hamburg. Philipp, Christian and Fredi are devoted by heart and soul to freeriding and snowboarding. Two of them come from the mountains. They all are professionals, know exactly what they do and run a particular philosophy for their clients. If you are around, check out freeridershop.de and in addition to the high quality snowboards and clothes definitely take a look at the gloves. You will be amazed.
