Splitboard Test and Splitboarding Editors Selection 2020/21: We have taken the most interesting innovations of the 20-21 season and tested them for you on downhill and uphill performance. Due to the pandemic we were not able to test all splitboards the way we normally do, namely the whole season until spring. Nevertheless we can show good results because the boards were tested in up to 30 cm of fresh snow, ploughed up terrain and on hard slopes, in ascent and descent.
Every year, more splitboards appear on the market. However, the most important thing for using a splitboard in alpine terrain is that the boards can do everything. If possible, the optimal splitboard should be a Swiss army knife. Because who can afford to buy his own Splitboard Quiver?
In our splitboard test we describe the characteristics of splitboards in terms of freestyle, all-mountain, powder and speed. The evaluation while riding refers to agility and edge hold. In the ascent the weight and the safety when traversing is crucial. Furthermore, the finishing and also the sustainability of the boards are an important benchmark for us. This can be particularly long durability, very sustainable production, a favorable production location or similar.
Since we can't offer Split & Relax in the traditional way this year, take your time and come to the Sit & Relax, our SPLIT & RELAX - Corona Edition (the link for registration is at the bottom of the page). Here you have the opportunity to get to know the people behind the brands and ask questions that are burning on your mind.
Please keep in mind that we test as objectively as possible, but we also have our preferences regarding shapes or ride or ascent performance. Our testers are, as always, between 73 and 80 kg in weight. In the test we use bindings from Spark R&D and Plum, shoes from Deeluxe and skins from Kohla. This means that our test setup is largely identical in terms of bindings, boots and skins.
Remember, maybe splitboarding is the only way to enjoy snowboarding this year.
So now we don't want to keep on torturing you, but present the latest best splitboards that have won our Splitboarding Selection 20-21. Have fun reading.

Since splitboard development has reached the end of the road in terms of weight optimization, Peter, founder of Amplid, wanted to know if it is possible to further reduce the weight of his splitboards during the ascent. Because we all dislike heavy snow, which sticks sometimes more or less on our skis during the ascent. Especially not when it resists repeated scraping. So Peter Bauer developed the Stratospheric Topsheet. This is supposed to reflect incoming heat radiation better from the board, therefore causing a cooler surface on which the snow no longer sticks.

This year we are convinced of the Jones Solution. Especially the implementation of the 3D nose and some adjustments to the shape have increased both downhill and uphill performance. The weight is in the leading range, although not ultra light. This ensures durability and a safe riding experience even in less optimal conditions.

The Stranda Descender Split is hardly comparable to the Shorty, which is designed for relaxed tours. With the Descender, Stranda has succeeded in creating a top allround board that performs even in demanding terrain and under difficult conditions.
This winter, unfortunately, there is no possibility to test together on the Split&Relax, but nevertheless we offer you the possibility to get in touch with the hottest brands directly: Registration SIT & RELAX - Corona Edition
