Lots of Splitboarders already have kids. So we want to recommend the Family Freestyle Weekend to all of those. It had been one of the most crazy events of the season, a great possibility to meet likeminded people and to pass on the Freestyle-Stoke to the kids.
Motivated kids, parents, coaches and representatives of different magazines had been there. No matter that it was windy and raining. We all had an unforgatable Freestyle day at the Betterpark Alpendorf!
But lets go step by step: The weather forcast for the first Freestyle Family Weekend at Betterpark / Sankt Johann im Pongau was amazingly bad. So bad that the second day was canceled. But anyway the first day seemed to be good enough to have fun out there. So the whole program was focused on Saturday. The partner comapnies Atomic, Burton, Jones and Yes set up there stands quickly on saturday and the first guests already arrived eg. the Snowboarding Family around Kathi Macheiner, Lilo Krebernik and there kids, Onboard Editor Tom Copsey with his son Louis and myself with Erik.
Friedl Kolar and Chris „CK“ Kröll from the Shredschool had been ready to pass on the stoke to interested kids in snowboarding. The Atomic Freeski - Teamrider Tobias Gratz and Stefan Ager had fun with the Freeski interested children. A snowboard teacher from the local Boardschool Toni Gruber and Florian Beitz from Snowboard Germany offered free Snowboard courses for beginners.
There had been quite a few people, due to the weather but all the workshops took place and the attending kids had a great time with there teachers and coaches. When it started to rain just during lunch time, the children wanted to keep on with their training and enjoy the perfectly shaped Betterpark as much as possible. Kickers, Boxes, Rails, Jumps,... all you need to get your Freestyle skills dialed in. The Thermos Hydration Station had tasty hot tea and Milk Shakes for the active children and parents, which was amazing and gave us a feeling of good hospitability.
So, after lunch the next generation of Freestylers started again to get the most out of this day. Actually they didn`t think about that, they just wanted to enjoy more and they wanted to learn and have fun in the snow no matter if raining, stormy or whatever. Freestyle is and will always be fun.
Next point on the time table was the Barilla Pasta Party in the Hotel Alpina just beside the cable car station. Yeaa pasta, there cannot be anything better than freshly prepared hot pasta after a big day of snowboarding and skiing. At the Bingo-Game-Session all the children were lucky and won nice prizes. So all of us went back home with beautiful memories.
Regarding the motivation, there are many skiers or snowboarders who should see the smiles and sparkling eyes of excitment on the kids faces, even when the weather was pretty shitty. This was such a good feeling that the event will take place next year for sure. Erik and I will be there again looking forward to meet lots of motivated kids and parents there.
