The Family Freestyle was again a lot of fun - a bunch of kids and teenagers who get to know and love the Freestyle-Spirit.
From a father's point of view. Relaxed at 10 o'clock it starts. Actually I wanted to keep my son with the coaches and do ego-guided a splitboard tour myself. Now we are very dependent on the snow conditions during the splitboarding and because it rained a lot the day before this plan had literally gone into the water. Nevertheless the snow was good for freestyling and the weather was great.
So I took the chance at the Family Freestyle Weekend to cruise around in the area with a colorful bunch of kids and the coaches organized by the organizer (free of charge for the kids). I really enjoyed the shiny eyes and the great motivation of the kids and coaches as much as I would have enjoyed a splitboard tour. The coaches do a great job and teach the kids first tricks like riding over a box, jumping the first 180 or do some Grabs. If the children don't let their parents tell them anything,... The coaches can do and on the two days great progress can be see
Already for the third time this event took place in Alpendorf near Sankt Johann im Pongau, about 2 hours away from Munich. It is super nice to watch the development of the children and also the development of the event itself. The times where snowboarders and skiers look strange at each other are history. This event is about having fun together and learning from and with each other.
The Burton Wriglet Park also offers something for the little ones. Here the children can develop a feeling for sideways riding and even make their first jumps on small obstacles.
On the first day we all started together, everyone with his snowboard, his skis or with rental equipment. At lunchtime we come back to the test area. Now the interest of the children is aroused and they want to try out the latest material of the snowboard and ski companies Atomic, Bataleon, Burton, Flux, Goodboards, Jones, Never Summer, Nitro, Rome, SP, TSG and YES. They are patiently advised and explained the individual features of the boards and skis, as well as the big ones. After everyone has been equipped with the new stuff, we go back to the fun park in Snow Space Alpendorf. This year the park was excellent. There really is something for every level. From small bouncers to medium jumps to fat kickers where the one or other double backflip was jumped - great to watch!
With the children we moved to small and medium jumps and and fun on boxes and tubes - as parents it is inspiring to see the children "shredding". Even I, who hasn't had a freestyle board under my feet for almost decades, borrowed one and... yes, I was as enthusiastic as my son.
In the afternoon the Barilla Pasta Party takes place in the Kreistenalm, right next to the test area and at the exit of the Gernkogelbahn. The children eat what they can and look forward like schnitzels to the bingo game where there are great prizes to be won. Last but not least, they all go on the final trip of the day together. With an incredibly beautiful sunset atmosphere. The Shred Down begins - children, teenagers and parents ride down the descent to Alpendorf in wild bustle.
On the second day the game of the Family Freestyle Weekend starts again. The kids know what they want and start running right away to get the coveted test boards. Afterwards they go back to the fun park to experience another great day in the snow with the coaches of the Shred School. The second Shred-Down starts at 3 pm and ends at a parking lot where the set-up for the Trialbike Show is already prepared. Thomas Klausner is a trial professional at world cup level and shows us breathtaking tricks on his bike. Also here children and parents are enthusiastic. WOW!
Many thanks to all who support our sport, who were there and of course to the organizers and brands who make this event possible.
