Riding Style / Field of use
Relatively soft, the Explorer Split ascends well. At the descent it is a bit less agile than it`s brother Solution but less aggressive and more playful. The performance for a splitboard at this range is good, in the backcountry as well as on slopes.
A good board for ambitoned newbees.
The Jones Explorer Split has been reworked and got a new "Crust Braking" nose. It's a splitboard for everybody who wants to get into or to go further - for a favorable price.
Due to it's shape (like the Solution), the Explorer is very versatile and can be used on piste as well as in the backcountry. Thanks to the long nose you'll surf up and the camber in combination with the Magne Traction gives you the needed edgehold.
The Explorer has a directional shape which increases speed and float. In deep snow the blunted nose makes sure less snow comes over the sides of your nose than it would with a regular shape. This means you get the benefits of a longer traditional nose, without the extra weight. Spin Tip offers a tapered wood core and eliminated ABS sidewalls to decrease spin weight and increase butter-ability. A mellow magne-traction along the edges, shaped like a serrated knife, will improve your edge grip by adding multiple contact points.
The directional rocker profile has camber under foot with a larger rocker area in the nose than in the tail. The float of the rockered nose improves maneuverability while the camber underfoot provides edge hold and response. The slight rockered tail maintains power and stability but helps keep the tail catch-free when initiating turns and landing switch.
Slightly less stiff than other Jones boards the Explorer will feel just a bit more playfull. While the medium-stiff flex still provides loads of response and liveliness.
Fiberglas strengthening enhances the pop of the snowboard and give a steady flex behaviour.
The Explorer is your affordable access into the world of splitboarding.
