With the Goodboards Team at Backyard Austria. Doing avalanche training and some good rides with the upcoming splitboards.
Friday night at the Backyard Austria in Zillertal, Josef, Frederick, Swen and Sebastian from Goodboards have already arrived, Peter comes later. We just talked about the development of splitboarding, as the chief of the Backyard Juergen said: "Whoever wants, can have some food." With excellent pasta, salad and liquid we discuss our action for the next day. The group is quite splitted, some do a lot of splitboarding others have always been freeriding. The weatherforecast is moderate. So it means that tomorrow we can take everything a little more relaxed than usally, mount the Goodboards, make a small tour and a transceiver exercise.
After a good breakfast, we mount the boards, cut the skins, fit bindings and start at around 11.00 clock. At first we drive in direction to Penken. The fresh snow of the past few days made the access to our starting point difficult. After a snow-chains-session, we leave the cars back half way and go on with the goodboards splits. Fortunately, we have these devices and must not, as before, trudging through the sloughy snow.
After an ascent of about 600 vertical meters we reached the summit station of Sonnenkarlift (already out of service). There we start the transceiver-session. Backpacks buried, organization of the "emergency situation" and already searching and exploring. In surprisingly good times our "victim dummies" were recovered.
At around 17.00 o`clock we ride down and come back to the Backyard an hour later. The HotPot is already prepared and we enjoy a relaxing bath in the "pot of humam beeings," while the BackYard Crew prepares the BBQ. After dinner, the Titty Twister Mashine is tested.

In the cozy lounge, equipped with everything a snowboarder heart demands, we look at some photos and split vids, the sauna session is postponed to another time.
Now it's Sunday, the weather is fine, so we check out the tourticket and the cable car carries us up to the Hintertux glacier. As warm up we ride one of Mattis favorite runs before we mount our splitboard equipment and start our hike to the Hoher Riffler.
In good weather we climb through crusty and wet snow. Also we dig a snow profile for exercise and to check the snowpack and then we head on to the critical crossing at this day. We decide together not to summit the Riffler, but do a great downhill.
On our lunch break Matti takes the chance to do a nice method air.
So we change the Good-Splits into ride-mode and off we go. First, through a rocky powder-face, then beautiful hilly terrain and to get back to the parking we ride along a slushy snow trail. A perfect day to test the performance of the Goodboards.

Finally we have another beer in the après ski bar and then all head home.
Thanks to Goodboards, all who were there and the crew from Backyard Austria for the good food and relaxed atmosphere.
