Northwave Domain SL.AM 26/27
A highly responsive freeride boot for riders who prioritise support, edge pressure and a compact feel in their splitboard setup.
Who is this splitboard boot for?
Domain SL.AM is an option for splitboarders whose priority is clearly the descent. It suits fast freeride lines and supportive setups, but is not a specialist for very long approaches or technical crampon sections.
How do fit and flex feel?
Northwave positions Domain as its stiff top-end boot. The new SL.AM closure tensions the boot by zones and aims to hold the foot evenly in the shell. For splitboarding this is useful downhill and on firm traverses; on long flat approaches it remains less mobile than a dedicated walk-mode boot.
What does the boot offer on the climb?
A grippy outsole and supportive cuff help on bootpacks. Northwave does not list Domain as a dedicated splitboard boot with a crampon welt, so check crampon fit and touring mobility in practice before alpine objectives.
Which binding matches this boot?
A direct freeride binding creates a powerful setup for speed and stiff boards. For longer tours, a more mobile highback can balance the boot’s high stiffness. Firm heel hold without lateral play remains essential.
Read the underlying principles in our gear guide Finding the perfect boot-binding combination.
What changed from the previous season?
Domain SL.AM replaces the former Domain CR/2 Spin approach with a new closure system. It remains a very stiff, precise freeride boot, while operation and pressure distribution have been redesigned.
Have we tested the boot?
We have not personally tested this 26/27 boot. The assessment is based on current manufacturer data, its construction and our existing experience with earlier versions.
